St Elvan Farm

We were asked to design a porch and courtyard scheme in the south garden of this Grade II listed farmhouse.

The scheme needed to provide a beautiful but usable space where the owners could relax and entertain guests, as well as containing a new herbaceous border.

The space was divided into four areas around a central path leading to the front door. The existing cherry tree was used as the centrepiece of a new circular lawn and Lonicera hedge.

We used different paving materials for visual and textural interest. These included Delabole slate, schist stone, facing bricks, concrete beams and two types of concrete paving slab.

Listed building consent was required and the project needed very detailed construction drawings for the oak framer, granite quarry and stone mason.
